We are a health and social care centre of excellence with all training focused around the National Occupational Standards as set by the Care Standard Setting Body (CSSB), which includes the Care Council for Wales. Our courses are suitable for those at the first stage of their career who need to develop their skills through to those who are managers and leaders within the health and social care sector.

Health and Social Care Training Courses

Dementia Awareness QCF Award Level 2

This course is suitable for support staff working in the health and social care sector. It has a particular relevance for those working with older service users, including those working with stages of pre-senile dementia.

Dementia Awareness QCF Award Level 3

This course is suitable for support staff working in the health and social care sector. It has a particular relevance for those working with older service users, including those working with stages of pre-senile dementia.

Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core

The qualification has been developed for individuals working in, or intending to work, in the healthcare and social care sectors. The qualification will provide a thorough introduction to the principles, values and knowledge needed to work in the healthcare and social care sectors with adults and children and young people. The content for this qualification supports learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of: • the core principles and values which underpin health and social care practice • ways of working in the health and social care sectors • effective practice within health and social care • progression routes to further study or employment within Health and Social Care safeguarding.

Level 2 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults)

The qualification is practice-based and assesses learners’ knowledge and competence to practice. It develops the learner’s ability to practically support health and care needs of adults in a range of settings and will enable them to develop and demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, behaviours, skills and practice within a health and social care setting. In particular, learners will be able to demonstrate that they: • understand, and apply in practice, the principles and values which underpin health and social care • understand, and apply in practice, person-centred approaches • make a positive contribution to the health and social care sector though their own practice • reflect on practice to continuously improve • understand job roles and ways of working within the health and social care sector • use literacy, numeracy and digital competency skills as appropriate within their role.

Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults)

The qualification is practice-based and assesses learners’ knowledge and competence to practice in employment. It provides the opportunity to enrich knowledge and skills using both mandatory content and optional units. It will be of interest to learners working in domiciliary support services, residential care, learning disability provision including community based healthcare services. In particular, learners will be able to demonstrate that they: • understand, and apply in practice, the principles and values which underpin health and social care • understand, and apply in practice, person-centred approaches • promote and support effective practice within Health and Social Care • are aware of key policies within the sector and understand how these affect service development and delivery • work in partnership with individuals, their families, carers and a range of professionals • apply a range of problem solving techniques that reflect on practice to continuously improve literacy, numeracy and digital competency skills as appropriate within their role.

Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Children and Young People)

The qualification is practice-based and assesses learners’ knowledge and competence to practice in the work place. It provides the opportunity to enrich knowledge and skills using both mandatory content and optional units in settings focused on children and young people, such as domiciliary or residential child care, residential family centres or foster care and community based healthcare settings. In particular, learners will be able to demonstrate that they: • understand, and apply in practice, the principles and values which underpin health and social care • understand, and apply in practice, child-centred approaches • promote and support effective practice within health and Social Care • are aware of key policies within the sector and understand how these affect service development and delivery • work in partnership with children, their families/carers and a range of professionals and apply a range of problem solving techniques • reflect on practice to continuously improve • use literacy, numeracy and digital competency skills as appropriate in their role.

Level 4 Preparing for Leadership and Management in Health & Social Care

This is a knowledge-based qualification for learners employed within the health and social care sector who intend to progress to a management role. This qualification provides a ‘stepping stone’ opportunity for learners wanting to progress to Level 5. This qualification is primarily for those in paid or unpaid employment or who have access to a work placement.

Level 4 Professional Practice in Health & Social Care

This qualification aims to develop the knowledge, understanding, behaviours and skills that underpin Professional Practice within the Health and Social Care sector. This qualification has been developed in close collaboration with key sector stakeholders, including Social Care Wales and Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW).

Level 5 Leadership and Management of Health & Social Care - Practice

This qualification is for those in a leadership or management role within the Health and Social Care sector. This qualification requires learners to develop the knowledge, understanding, behaviours and skills required for leadership and management of health and social care settings. This qualification provides opportunities for those leading and managing health and social care settings for adults, children and young people.
