EAL Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Experienced Worker Assessment Route (NVQ Portfolio)

The NVQ portfolio is the next step after completing the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation, which teach you the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to become an electrician. After you have completed the L2 and L3 Diplomas (often called the “tech. cert.” or 2365), you must be able to demonstrate your ability in the work place: this is what the NVQ portfolio is intended to demonstrate. Before you get started, we will invite you to an Introduction session to explain everything involved with the qualification so that you can be certain it’s the right step for you before enrolling with us. The assessments involve an assessor visiting you on-site on several occasions usually over a minimum period of six months (maximum of 24 months) to collect your evidence in the form of photographs, video evidence, expert witness testimony and records of professional discussions. It is up to you to ensure you are working with a qualified electrician on the dates the assessor visits, demonstrating a range of work on each occasion to cover all aspects of the NVQ requirements. Both you and the assessor will need to perform written records of your work and present this in a completed portfolio of evidence, demonstrating your competency in the workplace. Once you have completed your portfolio, your final hurdle will be undertaking the AM2E at our NET centre. The objective is that those persons who successfully complete this qualification will be judged to have met the eligibility requirements sufficient to apply for an Installation Electrician ECS Card from the JIB.
