Course Overview: 

This Apprenticeship/Diploma in Systems Operations Management under the Wamitab (Waste and Management Industry Training Advisory Board) umbrella consists of fifteen units for any leaner to complete. The qualification is not only a Waste/Resource Management qualification at degree level, but also a management and leadership Qualification at the same level.
This qualification is designed to provide individuals working in management roles on waste sites with the skills to operate their site effectively. Achievement of this qualification demonstrates competence by the learner to manage the resource management business effectively, ensuring that customers receive a reliable service delivered to a high standard.
Resource/Waste Management as a sector is becoming a very important to a business, along with businesses operating in an ethical and moral way and taking their corporate social responsibilities seriously to meet Government objectives for a zero net carbon Great Britain by 2050.
The Level 4 Diploma for Systems Operations Management underpins a broad range of occupational roles in the collection, environmental, CSR, transport, treatment and final management of waste and resources. Along with budgeting and financial planning, and team management.

What job role could this qualification lead to or support?

This qualification is ideal for new or experienced people managing waste and resource management operations that require evidence of their competence. It is a flexible qualification that can be tailored to meet the requirements of specific job roles (such as site manager, supervisor or team leader) in the sector or within a particular organisation.
Local authorities, waste management companies or third sector (not-for-profit) organisations could employ people already working in relevant roles. This qualification will support the sector to overcome significant skills gaps as 65% of all new business start-ups in the energy production and utilities sector in 2019 were created in the waste management industry, giving an indication of the rapid growth this industry has experienced and the potential demand for this qualification in the future.
Achievement of the qualification demonstrates competence by the learner to operate appropriately and in accordance with employment requirements whilst undertaking team a management role in the Recycling Industry. It is assessed ‘on-the-job’ and learning will take place naturally as part of the normal working environment and routine. The structure of the qualification has been designed to enable complete flexibility across the sustainable recycling roles at a Manager/Team leader/Supervisory level. The qualifications aim is to develop occupational competence in a wide range of skills, and to provide a structured route to job competence and career progression.
This qualification covers:

• Conduct a health and safety risk assessment of the workplace
• Manage and Plan an Operational Area within an Organisation
• Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility
• Work productively with colleagues and stakeholders
• Support learning and development within own area of responsibility
• Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
• Maintain protection of the environment in facilities used for the processing or storage of recyclables and other materials
• Monitor and maintain the quality of treatment processes in an energy and utilities environment
• Manage physical resources
• Procedural compliance
• Provide leadership in your area of responsibility

Entry Requirements:

This qualification is open entry. This means that learners interested in undertaking the WAMITAB Level 4 Diploma in Systems and Operations Management do not require any other qualifications or levels of attainment. However, learners will need to be employed in a suitable position, or have access to the working environment, as the qualification is assessed ‘on the job’.

We would require a pre-course meeting with you and your employer to discuss the course and to establish that this level and course content is suitable.

Course Delivery:

There will be an induction day prior to the course commencing. The induction day will include enrolment to Wamitab and Gower College Swansea and the launch of the programme.
The course is continually assessed over a 36-month period. There are no examinations. All learning outcomes for the Level 4 Apprenticeship in Systems Operations Management are met through the teaching, delivering and assessment of the course. This is internally verified on site and externally verified by Wamitab as appropriate.
The Apprenticeship at Level 4 consists of the following qualifications:

Wamitab Principles of Systems Operations Management Certificate.
Essential skills Level 2 in Communication, Application of Number.

Students will need to complete the Essential Skills programme, which consists of a controlled task and confirmatory test; both would need to be sat under exam conditions, if a GCSE Certificate can not be produced.

After the successful completion of the Level 4 Apprenticeship, Learners would be able to progress on to the various other Wamitab Level 4 Qualifications, including the statutory Qualification to manage hazardous waste materials.
