Level 3 Award in Education and Training
This qualification is suitable for those who are currently training, assessing or new to teaching and need a qualification for their job role. This can also be used for continuous professional development purposes. This qualification is based on Model 2 where some of the units are taken from learning and development. (The TAQA Assessor qualification also overlaps with this qualification.)
You will need to be in a role where you are either teaching or assessing students in order to achieve the optional learning and development units. A good standard of English is also required to complete Assignment work.
You will need a pre-course interview with the Course Tutor to ensure that you are able to meet the learning outcomes for the qualification.
You will be required to complete 1 Mandatory unit and 2 Optional Units (12 credits) and produce a portfolio of evidence at the end of the qualification. (Time-frame 6 months). (The qualification is split into classroom attendance for Unit 1/6 and then workplace visits for the optional units).
Mandatory Units:
Unit 1 - Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education (3 Credits) This unit provides the opportunity to highlight some of the legislative and regulatory requirements that must be met by organisations and individuals. The unit also explores codes of practice and roles and responsibilities in promoting equality and valuing diversity and promoting safe and supporting learning environments for students. It also explores the boundaries between the professional role, working with others in education and student referral mechanisms.
Unit 6 – Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment (3 credits)
(can be APL’d from the TAQA Assessor Qualification)
This unit covers the ‘knowledge’ part of the TAQA Assessor Qualification where we look at the ‘assessment cycle’.
Optional Units:
Unit 2 – Facilitate learning and development for individuals (6 credits)
This unit aims to assess the understanding of the learning and development practitioner in how to facilitate learning and development for individuals. The practitioner is required to understand the use of a variety of methods. This unit must take place in the workplace.
OR
Unit 3 – Facilitate learning and development in groups (6 credits)
This unit aims to assess the understanding of the learning and development practitioner’s understanding of group dynamics and facilitating learning and development in groups. Learners are required to understand the variety of methods such as instruction, demonstration, small-group activities, role-play, e-learning, presentations etc.
This unit must take place in the work environment with groups of students.
The Faculty is represented by experienced Assessors and Internal Quality Assurers from various specialities across the College.
The course is structured in two parts:
Part 1 – Mandatory unit – classroom. Assignment.
Part 2 – Optional units from Learning and Development. Learners will need to gather evidence from a work-based learning context.
At the end of the qualification, the portfolio of evidence must be submitted for assessment and quality assurance.
