Overview

This qualification is designed to provide a sound foundation in environmental management. It is suitable for managers, supervisors and employees who have a responsibility for managing environmental issues as part of their day-to-day duties.

The qualification is also suitable for environmental practitioners who wish to formalise their experience and progress their career with a formal qualification.

Key information

Candidates will be required to attend a pre-course interview to discuss the qualification, and establish if the level and content is suitable.

No previous knowledge of environmental management is required, however candidates should note that the assessment includes a requirement to write a short report and sit a written examination.

The qualification consists of two main units, management and control of environmental hazards, as well as the practical application and support.

The management and control of environmental hazards consists of nine elements:

  • Foundations in environmental management
  • Environmental management systems
  • Environmental impact assessment
  • Control of emissions to air
  • Control of contamination of water sources
  • Control of waste and land use
  • Sources and use of energy and energy efficiency 
  • Control of environmental noise
  • Planning for and dealing with environmental emergencies

Delivery of the qualification is flexible, and can include a day release of one day per week for taught study for the duration of the course, plus an additional revision day.

A certificate parchment is issued by NEBOSH upon successful completion of all course units. 

It is essential that candidates bring a form of photographic ID with you on the day of examination. Failure to do so may result in you not being able to sit the exam.
