BPEC HWSS Domestic Vented and Unvented Hot Water Systems – Qualification
Overview
BPEC HWSS Domestic Vented and Unvented Hot Water Systems replaces the unvented hot water course and convers all hot water systems. The update is a result of the recently revised G3 Building Regulation.
The course features the original content of the old unvented hot water systems training, as well as the new requirements under G3 for both vented and unvented systems.
The aims of the course are to:
- Understand the requirements of Part G of the Building Regulations relating to the design, installation, service and maintenance of Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems and how to comply with the regulations, paying particular attention to unvented cylinders
- Identify typical faults associated with the installation/maintenance of Domestic Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems
- Understand the impact of other building regulations as they relate to design, installation, service and maintenance of hot water storage systems, in particular Part L1 and Part P
Upon completion of the course, learners should be able to register with a competent person’s scheme such as APHC or the Gas Safe Register. Once registered, learners will then be approved and able to work with hot water systems.
Key information
The course is ideal for candidates with the following background:
- Have a number of years of experience in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, including water regulations
- Hold a formal qualification at S/NVQ Level 3 in plumbing or heating engineering, including water regulations
- Are currently undertaking a course in plumbing or heating engineering, which will lead to a formal qualification such as S/NVQ Level 3 in plumbing or heating engineering, including water regulations
A short interview might be required with the tutor of the course.
The course will be delivered in one day, including an assessment at Gower College Swansea’s Energy Centre, based at Tycoch Campus.
Learners could consider a Gas ACS assessment or Renewable Technologies.
The course will be assessed through a multiply-choice paper and practical assessment.
The course fee is £220, which includes course registration, manual and certification.
This qualification expires after five years, and will be subject to a renewal process if engineers wish to continue installing and commissioning Unvented Hot Water Cylinders.
