Dementia Awareness - Level 2 Award
Dementia Awareness - Level 2 Award
According to Welsh Government, 37,000 people in Wales currently have dementia with the number expected to rise to 50,000 within the next 20 years. Dementia Awareness will allow learners to achieve a broad underpinning knowledge of the subject, as well as practical skills that will enable them to support people experiencing dementia.
The course will take 6-12 months to complete.
Who is the course for?
The Award is suitable for support staff working in the health and social care sector. It has a particular relevance for those working with older service users, including those working with stages of pre-senile dementia. It is primarily for staff who have little or no knowledge of dementia and/or dementia care.
All applicants will need a genuine interest in people and should demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm. Students need to be reliable, honest, trust-worthy motivated and self-reliant.
The Level 2 award will be delivered through 12 taught sessions over 12 months. The course will involve a significant amount of hands-on activity, with additional work outside of sessions to develop the content and materials required to complete the course.
Learners will be expected to complete a workbook at the end of each session, which will be assessed by a suitably qualified tutor from our Health and Social Care team. Learners will be in a suitable work placement and will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence consisting of practical and documental evidence.

Customer Feedback
“I have found GCS Training and its assessors to be very thorough and use their time on site to provide the highest standard. They provide a lot of one-to-one coaching for individuals who perhaps find it harder than others.
