Electrical

18th IET Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671 : 2018 -100% funded subject to eligibility

The 18th edition course is a new course that replaces the 17th edition course from July 2018 onward. On January 1st, 2019, all electrical installations are to comply with BS 7671:2018.

EAL 603/3929/9 Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points- 100% funded subject to eligibility

This award gives the learner an in-depth insight of the application of the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation. It provides a facility for individuals working in the electrotechnical sector to develop their understanding of the installation of electric vehicle (EV). This course covers all the main skills required to install, fault find and inspect and test electric vehicle charging points. This is a new sector where electricians can train to become a specialist installer. Given the high prices of petrol and diesel, more people are turning to electric vehicles.
It is a requirement that every item of portable electrical equipment used in a commercial environment e.g. offices, shops, hotels, factories, schools, rented accommodation etc. is maintained. This means it has been inspected, tested and certified as being safe to use. This applies to all portable electrical equipment e.g.: kettles, toasters, I T equipment
This Level 4 qualification is aimed at experienced electricians with a good knowledge of inspection and testing and will develop a deeper understanding of the principles of installation design and specification. The course is theory based, taking candidates from a basic knowledge of BS 7671 to a thorough grasp of design principles to meet the requirements of that standard and particularly emphasising on the safe and ergonomic design on an installation which complies with relevant statutes, regulations; industry standards, and sound engineering practices.

AM2 - Assessment of Occupational Competence (AOC) & Competence Enhancement Training (CET)

This very busy test centre opened in August 2008 and provides candidates with the opportunity to undertake their AM2 Assessment of Occupational Competence 48 weeks of the year.

Basic Electrical Installation Maintenance

This course is aimed at those who have limited or no experience with electrical circuits and components. It will provide the learner with the theory and practice required to undertake basic electrical maintenance within their own premises or places of work e.g. connecting a plug top, changing a light switch or fitting, checking for circuit continuity, etc. There is no formal assessment involved but we do include a knowledge assessment at the end of the course. This course would suit individuals or groups of both sex who possess limited or no knowledge of domestic electrical circuits and components.

EAL Level 2 Award in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification

This qualification is for candidates who require knowledge and training in the fundamental knowledge and practical skills involved with inspection and testing of simple single phase electrical installations plus the relevant legislation

EAL Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Experienced Worker Assessment Route (NVQ Portfolio)

The NVQ portfolio is the next step after completing the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation, which teach you the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to become an electrician. After you have completed the L2 and L3 Diplomas (often called the “tech. cert.” or 2365), you must be able to demonstrate your ability in the work place: this is what the NVQ portfolio is intended to demonstrate. Before you get started, we will invite you to an Introduction session to explain everything involved with the qualification so that you can be certain it’s the right step for you before enrolling with us. The assessments involve an assessor visiting you on-site on several occasions usually over a minimum period of six months (maximum of 24 months) to collect your evidence in the form of photographs, video evidence, expert witness testimony and records of professional discussions. It is up to you to ensure you are working with a qualified electrician on the dates the assessor visits, demonstrating a range of work on each occasion to cover all aspects of the NVQ requirements. Both you and the assessor will need to perform written records of your work and present this in a completed portfolio of evidence, demonstrating your competency in the workplace. Once you have completed your portfolio, your final hurdle will be undertaking the AM2E at our NET centre. The objective is that those persons who successfully complete this qualification will be judged to have met the eligibility requirements sufficient to apply for an Installation Electrician ECS Card from the JIB.
