Course Overview: 

This course/qualification is suitable for those who are currently assessing vocational qualifications i.e. QCF style qualifications and require a recognised qualification as a qualified Assessor.
As an assessor you will be required to complete 3 units and produce a portfolio of evidence at the end of the qualification.
·        Unit 1-Understand the principles and practices of assessment:
The aim of this unit is to assess the learning and development practitioner’s knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of assessment. This can be achieved through completion of workbooks or essays.
·        Unit 2- Assess occupational competence in the work environment:
The aim of this unit is to assess a learning and development practitioner’s performance in carrying out assessments of occupational competence in a work environment. The trainee Assessor must be assessing a minimum of 2 learners to evidence this unit in the workplace.
·        Unit 3 -Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding:
The aim of this unit is to assess the learning and development of practitioner’s performance in carrying out the assessment of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding outside of the work environment. This can be done in a classroom/workshop/training environment. The trainee Assessor need to have a minimum of 2 students that they are assessing. The units assessed must also be quality assured/moderated by the subject IQA for their department.
In addition to the above, the Gower College Tutor/Assessor will also arrange with the trainee Assessor to observe them working with students and going through the ‘Assessment Cycle’.

Entry Requirements: 

You will need to be occupationally competent and experienced within the sector that you are assessing. You also have to be ‘in the assessor job role’.
You will need a pre-course interview with the tutor to ensure that you are able to meet the learning outcomes for the qualification.  For large organisations this can be done with the Training Manager. 

Course Delivery: 

The course is structured in two parts:

Part 1 – Attendance of 3 workshops, 1 per month for 3 months to go through the learning outcomes for the knowledge part of the qualification. Learners will complete workbooks or essays.

Part 2 – Assessment of learners. The tutor will organise 1-1 meetings in the workplace to check progress. This will also include observations of the trainee assessor working with students in the workplace.

At the end of the qualification, the portfolio of evidence must be submitted for final assessment and quality assurance.

(NB – If the Assessor already holds the P.G.C.E and does not wish to attend Part 1, then the TAQA Tutor can do this part on a 1-1 basis)

Progression Opportunities: 

You can progress from this course to the Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance.
