Overview

BPEC Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems is suitable for practicing plumbers and building services engineers, where learners will develop knowledge and understanding of solar thermal environmental technology systems.

Learners will develop and demonstrate the knowledge required to install, commission and handover solar thermal hot water systems, including the inspection, service and maintenance of solar thermal hot water systems.

Upon successful completion, learners can apply to become MCS accredited or join a competent person’s scheme to register installations.

Key information

Learners are required to provide evidence of competence in:

  • Water regulations/Water byelaws (WRAS, BPEC, ERC or equivalent)
  • Unvented domestic hot water storage systems (UVDHW) (ERS, BPEC or equivalent)
  • Energy efficiency for domestic heating (City and Guilds 6084 or equivalent)

A short interview will be required with the tutor of the course.

The course will be delivered over four days, including one assessment day at Gower College Swansea’s Energy Centre, based at Tycoch Campus.

The course will be assessed through a multiple-choice online examination, as well as a practical assessment in a simulated environment.

The course fee is £650, which includes course registration, manual and certification.

It is essential learners bring a form of photogenic ID on the day of the examination, failure to do so may result in you being unable to sit the exam.
