EAL Level 3 in Electrical Installation, Experienced Worker Assessment Route (NVQ Portfolio)

Course Overview:

The NVQ portfolio is the next step after completing the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation, which teach you the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to become an electrician. After you have completed the L2 and L3 Diplomas (often called the “tech. cert.” or 2365), you must be able to demonstrate your ability in the work place: this is what the NVQ portfolio is intended to demonstrate. Before you get started, we will invite you to an Introduction session to explain everything involved with the qualification so that you can be certain it’s the right step for you before enrolling with us. The assessments involve an assessor visiting you on-site on several occasions usually over a minimum period of six months (maximum of 24 months) to collect your evidence in the form of photographs, video evidence, expert witness testimony and records of professional discussions. It is up to you to ensure you are working with a qualified electrician on the dates the assessor visits, demonstrating a range of work on each occasion to cover all aspects of the NVQ requirements. Both you and the assessor will need to perform written records of your work and present this in a completed portfolio of evidence, demonstrating your competency in the workplace. Once you have completed your portfolio, your final hurdle will be undertaking the AM2E at our NET centre. The objective is that those persons who successfully complete this qualification will be judged to have met the eligibility requirements sufficient to apply for an Installation Electrician ECS Card from the JIB. Entry Requirements:

The qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices, or those who have completed an electrotechnical qualification with less than last five years relevant industry experience. It is a requirement that prior to undertaking this qualification, learners must have their suitability assessed by the completion of the qualification’s pre-entry skills scan. Learners MUST possess the knowledge and understanding comparable to the Level 3 Electrotechnical apprenticeship qualification which can be evidenced by relevant electrotechnical qualifications. Where learners do not hold the relevant qualifications, their eligibility will be probed through the skills scan to verify if they have the equivalent knowledge and understanding. This MUST occur prior to registering the learner on this qualification. This qualification is designed solely for individuals who have been working in the electrotechnical industry as a practising electrician for a minimum of 5 years and possess specified knowledge, understanding and competence as outlined in the skills scan (aligned to the Level 3 electrotechnical apprenticeship qualification). The age range of this qualification is 21, however it is expected due to the five-year industry experience requirements learners will be significantly older. You must provide evidence of your successful completion of Level 2 or Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation. These can either be City & Guilds or EAL awarded.
