This award gives the learner an in-depth insight of the application of the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation. It provides a facility for individuals working in the electrotechnical sector to develop their understanding of the installation of electric vehicle (EV). This course covers all the main skills required to install, fault find and inspect and test electric vehicle charging points. This is a new sector where electricians can train to become a specialist installer. Given the high prices of petrol and diesel, more people are turning to electric vehicles.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT UPDATE FOR REGISTRATIONS FROM THE 01/09/23:
To take this qualification learners must be competent electricians and hold one of the qualifications listed below, with the relevant AM test; (e.g. AM2/S/E/D). Also, it is important ALL candidates must have passed an Inspection & Testing course. A copy of your certificate must be supplied prior to you being accepted on the course.
Candidates must have a full working knowledge of the following requirements:
Be able to correctly install and terminate pvc/pvc cable (twin and earth) and
Steel Wire armoured cable (swa) •
Know the different earthing installation requirements i.e. TT, TNS, TNCS •
Be able to carry out an initial verification (inspection & testing) on an electrical installation and complete the necessary paperwork.
Note: These competencies are required for the assessment and are not taught as part of the course. It is expected that candidates possess relevant trade qualification and/or have a working knowledge of the electrical industry. Each application is considered on individual merit; however formal qualifications may not be required dependant on experience.
Course Structure
This is a 2-day course consisting of practical installation of EV charging unit supported by classroom instruction, a practical assessment and a 1-hour open book on-line examination.
