Community Development - Level 3 Apprenticeship

Course Overview:

Community development allows learners to develop the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in the community. The programme contributes to the community by producing the next generation of community workers and police community support officers.

This programme is delivered as an apprenticeship which can be fully-funded by the Welsh Government, and can be used to upskill existing staff or recruit new talent within an organisation, regardless of age (subject to eligibility).

Course Delivery:

The learners will be allocated a dedicated trainer/assessor who will work closely with both the learners and employer to ensure the units selected are suited to their roles and organisational priorities. The trainer/assessor will visit the learners every 4-6 weeks to assess progress and set objectives for the next period.

The learners will be assigned work set to their elected units, and will be expected to gather evidence from their day to day role to demonstrate the application of their new skills. Learners may be expected to attend workshops, depending on the funding route of the qualification.

Assessment

To successfully complete this qualification, learners will undertake work relevant to their roles and learning environment. They will acquire the knowledge, tools and techniques associated with each unit that they will then implement in their current work environment. The work assigned and evidence gathered will be reviewed 1-2-1 meetings with trainers/assessors and used for assessment purposes. Gower College Swansea utilises Smart Assessor which is an online apprenticeship management tool enabling provider, learner and employer to effectively track learner progress.

Customer Feedback

“The overall experience of working with GCS Training has been an extremely successful one and we hope to replicate this with future trainees. The apprenticeship programme has been a resounding success with all three successfully completing the course and more importantly using this knowledge and experience to move on to attain full time employment. The biggest impact the training had was on the confidence of individuals. ”
